Matt is a Senior Associate in Quigg Partners’ corporate team. His experience spans a wide range of commercial, tax and regulatory matters, with particular expertise in mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, joint ventures, and overseas investment.
Matt joined Quigg Partners in 2021 from a national commercial law firm, where he advised on corporate and international taxation, as well as public law and public policy matters. Before entering private practice, Matt worked for the New Zealand Treasury, advising on tax, international trade and foreign investment policy. His understanding of the political context and machinery of government gives clients an additional dimension to his legal advice.
Matt has completed a Master of Laws (LLM (Hons)) with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland and holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce from Victoria University of Wellington. He is a Chartered Accountant and member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, was a Robin Oliver Tax Policy Scholar in 2017, and was named in NZ Lawyer’s 2026 Future Leaders list.
Combining experience across corporate law, tax, public policy and government, Matt brings a commercially focused and strategically informed perspective to complex transactions and regulatory matters.
